Can I book my two or three dogs together for the same grooming appointment?

One question I get surprisingly often is:

“Can I book my dogs together for the same grooming appointment?”

In many cases, yes — and when it works, there’s a good reason.

Dogs from the same household already share scent, routine, and familiarity with one another. For many pairs, being groomed on the same visit can actually reduce stress, especially for dogs that are nervous, bonded, or seniors. Seeing a familiar companion nearby can make the experience feel more predictable and less overwhelming.

From a grooming standpoint, double appointments work best when:

Dogs are comfortable with each other and don’t escalate one another’s anxiety

Grooming needs are similar in size, coat type, and time required

Both dogs can safely rotate between table time, bath and drying without stress

Neither dog requires constant one-on-one handling

However, there are times when a double appointment isn’t the best choice, such as when:

One dog becomes reactive or distressed when the other is present

One dog’s behavior increases the other’s anxiety

Grooming needs are very different (for example, one requires extensive hand-scissoring or special handling)

Medical, age-related, or behavioral considerations require a quieter, more focused environment

The key isn’t having a blanket rule — it’s discernment.

Our goal is always to balance efficiency for the family with safety, calmness, and quality of care for each dog.

Sometimes grooming together truly benefits both pets. Other times, separate appointments allow each dog to have the individual attention they need.

Knowing when together is better — and when it isn’t — is part of responsible, experienced grooming.

Done right, double or triple appointments can save time, keep dogs calmer, and help us maintain the high standard of care every pet deserves.
