Have you ever wondered what type of #job is your #dog meant to be doing? Are you aware that not all #dogs have the same needs, including #grooming requirements?
Most #petowners choose a #dog for a variety of reasons... We look at those lovely #puppyeyes, this #softfur, the cuteness, colour of #coat etc.
But all #breeds belong in certain #groups, and they have specific tasks to do which are ingrained in their DNA. So before you get that little cute ball of #fluff home, stop and think, what type of #breed is this? What is its purpose? Is my home, my lifestyle, my family the right environment for this #dog? Would this #dog adapt to my life and would I be able to provide for their needs?
Dogs are grouped into seven groups. Each has been specifically bred to do certain things. They have different #hair or #coat or #fur. Some are #singlecoated and need clipping regularly. Some are #hypoallergenic. Some don't shed but the #mat easily...Others are #doublecoated and #shed a lot. They all need different #brushes, #shampoos, #conditioners and other products specifically for their particular #coat type.
There are the #toys - #smalldogs bred to keep you warm by cuddling up to your lap; warn of any perceived dangers; hunt rats or birds and perform.
The #terriers are low to the ground 'terra' - Earth, and catch vermin...
The #gundogs are #retrievers bred to bring back game...
The #hounds are full of energy and run fast to get their prey.
The #workingdogs are great with instructions, and are bred to please...They're great for #herding and #guarding flocks etc.
The #utilitydogs, bred for work such as guarding, protecting etc...
The #nonsportingdogs have a variety of roles and jobs to perform...
And of course there are the #mixedbreeds with various elements from the different groupings as they've been cross-bred. These will have additional needs.
Information is power so before you invest your next 15-18years to having a #dog, do your homework...
